PGM

The strength and reliability of anchor fastenings are largely determined by the geometry of the drill hole. Modern anchors can only deliver optimum performance in precisely drilled holes.

The strength and reliability of anchor fixings depend largely on the geometry of the drilling hole. Modern anchors can only perform excellent values in exact drilling holes.

For that reason, the European Technical Assessments / Approvals (ETAs) for anchors contain strong requirements for the used masonry drills.

The inspection mark of the Prüfgemeinschaft Mauerbohrer (PGM®) is the proof for the suitability of the masonry drill bits. This mark is granted only to manufacturers under the following conditions:

  • State of the art manufacturing under use of a quality insurance system
  • Yearly skip-lot inspections of the produced drill bits by independent institutes
  • State of the art social and environmental standards.

The inspection requirements have been developed by the national approval bodies for anchors in co-operation with leading manufacturers of masonry drill bits and anchors.

The Steering Committee of PGM® also conducts basic investigations to assure the suitability of masonry drill bits for anchor fixings. New types of drills bits get the inspection mark only after comparison tests proved their suitability.

The user can be sure when he buys masonry drill bits with PGM® mark. Drill bits without inspection mark should not be used for anchor fixings regardless of if they require approval or not to prevent damages of persons or properties.

Benefits of the PGM Certification for Anchor Installers

1. Suitable Drill Bits Easily Identifiable
The PGM certification makes it easy to identify suitable drill bits for anchor installations.

2. No Need to Check Drill Bit Diameter on the Jobsite
With the PGM certification, installers can be sure that the drill bit diameter meets the required standards, eliminating the need for on-site inspections.

3. Drill Bits from Monitored Production Facilities
Drill bits with the PGM certification come from monitored production facilities, ensuring consistent quality and reliability.

4. Compliance with ETA Tolerances and Installation Instructions
PGM-certified drill bits meet the tolerances defined in the European Technical Approval (ETA) and the installation instructions, ensuring optimal anchor performance.

5. Traceability of Drill Bits
Each drill bit with the PGM quality mark is clearly marked, allowing easy traceability throughout the production and supply chain.

6. Preventing Liability Issues
Using approved drill bits helps prevent liability issues that can arise from using unsuitable drill bits, protecting both the installer and the owner.

7. No Ties to a Specific Supplier
The PGM quality mark does not tie the installer to a specific drill bit supplier, allowing flexibility in choosing the best tool while ensuring quality.

OSA

OSA stands for “Organization for the Safety of Abrasives.” This certification mark is used for abrasives and grinding products, including diamond grinding wheels, that meet strict safety standards.

The OSA certification guarantees that the diamond grinding wheel has been tested and approved according to European safety requirements. This includes mechanical safety, such as the wheel’s strength and the risk of breakage during use, as well as other aspects such as the correct use of materials and the prevention of unsafe conditions during grinding.

The certification mark is therefore an important sign of reliability and safety when choosing a diamond grinding wheel. If a wheel carries the OSA certification mark, you know that the product meets strict safety and quality standards.
